Ingredients

For the Turkey Meatballs:

1 pound ground turkey

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

For the Marinara Sauce:

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 medium onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes

1 teaspoon dried basil

1 teaspoon sugar (to balance acidity)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Make the Meatball Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, minced garlic, oregano, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix until just combined; do not overmix.

Form the Meatballs: Using your hands, form the mixture into 16 equal-sized meatballs (about 1.5 inches in diameter) and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake the Meatballs: Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until they are cooked through and lightly browned.

Prepare the Marinara Sauce: While the meatballs are baking, heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 4-5 minutes.

Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Combine with Tomatoes: Pour in the crushed tomatoes, then add the dried basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir well and let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes to blend the flavors.

Add Meatballs to Sauce: Once the meatballs are done baking, gently transfer them into the marinara sauce. Let them simmer together for an additional 5-10 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Serve: Serve the turkey meatballs in marinara over your favorite pasta or on a sub roll, garnished with fresh basil leaves and additional grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
