Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp baking powder

1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 1/4 cup (160g) all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips or chunks

Instructions

Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8 inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

      Prepare the Brownie Layer:

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well blended.

          Mix Dry Ingredients:

Sift together cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder; combine with the wet mixture until just mixed. Stir in the chocolate chips. Pour and spread the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish.

              Make the Cookie Layer:

In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy. Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined.

                  Combine Dry Ingredients:

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix into the butter mixture until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips or chunks.

                      Assemble:

Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough over the brownie layer. Use a spatula to spread out the cookie dough gently on top, but it’s okay if some brownie batter shows through.

                          Bake:

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the edges are set, but the center is still slightly gooey. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with a few moist crumbs.

                              Cool and Serve:

Allow to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then lift out using the parchment paper. Let it cool completely on a wire rack before cutting into square pieces. Enjoy these fudgy chewy delights!
