Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 large egg

2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)

1 tsp vanilla extract

Oil for frying

For the Maple Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tbsp pure maple syrup

1-2 tbsp milk (adjust for consistency)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon. Whisk until well blended.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix – a few lumps are okay!

Shape the Donut Holes: If you have a cookie scoop or small ice cream scoop, use it to portion out the dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Each scoop should form a round ball (about the size of a golf ball).

Heat the Oil: In a deep pot or saucepan, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil's readiness by dropping in a small piece of dough – it should sizzle and rise to the surface.

Fry the Donut Holes: Carefully add the dough balls into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry in batches for about 2-3 minutes until they are golden brown, turning them halfway through for even cooking.

Drain Excess Oil: Use a slotted spoon to remove the donut holes and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Prepare the Maple Glaze: In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until smooth. Adjust milk to achieve your desired consistency (thicker for dipping, thinner for drizzling).

Glaze the Donut Holes: While the donut holes are still warm, dip the tops into the maple glaze, or drizzle it generously over the donut holes.

Serve and Enjoy: Once glazed, allow the donut holes to set for a few minutes before enjoying them warm!
