Ingredients

1 cup pecan halves

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1 cup granulated sugar

3 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup buttermilk

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Pecan Topping: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and brown sugar. Stir until well combined.

Assemble the Base: Pour the butter and brown sugar mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch round cake pan. Sprinkle the pecan halves evenly on top of the mixture.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside.

Cream the Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat together the granulated sugar and remaining melted butter until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).

Incorporate Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter-sugar mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.

Pour the Cake Batter: Carefully pour the batter over the pecan topping in the cake pan and spread it evenly.

Bake the Cake: Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and Flip: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then carefully invert the cake onto a serving plate. Let it cool completely before slicing.
