Reuben Balls with Spicy Thousand Island Dipping Sauce

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

2 cups corned beef, finely chopped

1 cup sauerkraut, drained and well-chopped

1 cup shredded Swiss cheese

1/4 cup green onions, sliced

1 cup breadcrumbs (plus extra for coating)

1 large egg

1 tsp Dijon mustard

1 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp black pepper

Oil for frying

Spicy Thousand Island Dipping Sauce:

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1/4 cup ketchup

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp hot sauce (adjust to taste)

1 tsp garlic powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Mix the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the chopped corned beef, sauerkraut, shredded Swiss cheese, green onions, breadcrumbs, egg, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until well-combined.

Form the Balls: Take a small amount of the mixture (about 2 tablespoons) and roll it into a ball. Repeat with the remaining mixture. You should have about 12-15 balls.

Prepare for Frying: Roll each ball in additional breadcrumbs until fully coated. This will give them a crispy exterior when fried.

Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet, pour in enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan (about 1 inch deep). Heat over medium heat until hot (around 350°F/175°C).

Fry the Balls: Carefully place the Reuben balls in the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking. Remove with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Make the Dipping Sauce: In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, garlic powder, and season with salt and pepper. Stir until well blended.

Serve: Arrange the Reuben balls on a serving platter accompanied by the Spicy Thousand Island dipping sauce. Enjoy your delicious and unique appetizer!
