Moist Vanilla Buttermilk Cake

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup buttermilk, room temperature

3 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)

Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

    Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

      Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, using an electric mixer, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

        Add Eggs and Extracts: Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla and almond extracts until combined.

          Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Begin and end with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.

            Pour into Baking Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

              Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

                Cool: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

                  Serve: Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar if desired, slice, and enjoy your moist vanilla buttermilk cake!
