Ingredients

12 oz spaghetti

1 lb ground beef

1 lb Italian sausage

1 medium onion, chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

28 oz can crushed tomatoes

15 oz can tomato sauce

2 tsp sugar

1 tsp dried basil

1 tsp dried oregano

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 cups ricotta cheese

3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Spaghetti: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Meat Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and Italian sausage. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat.

Add Vegetables: Stir in the chopped onion and garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

Combine Sauces: Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Mix Ricotta Cheese: In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese with a pinch of salt and pepper. Set aside.

Assemble the Lasagna: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a 9x13-inch baking dish, layer half of the cooked spaghetti on the bottom. Then add half of the meat sauce, followed by dollops of the ricotta cheese mixture. Sprinkle with one cup of mozzarella cheese.

Repeat Layers: Add the remaining spaghetti, the rest of the meat sauce, and top with the remaining mozzarella and all the Parmesan cheese.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven, let it cool for a few minutes, and garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
