Honey Garlic Chicken Recipe

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts

1/2 cup honey

1/4 cup soy sauce

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)

Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Chopped green onions (for garnish)

Cooked rice (for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, apple cider vinegar, grated ginger, sesame oil, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.

Marinate the Chicken: Place the chicken thighs or breasts in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring all pieces are well-coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours for more flavor.

Cook the Chicken: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade and reserve the marinade for later. Add the chicken to the skillet and cook for about 6-8 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and golden brown. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).

Thicken the Sauce: Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the skillet and set aside. Pour the reserved marinade into the skillet. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat and stir in the cornstarch mixture. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Combine and Serve: Return the chicken to the skillet, coating it in the thickened sauce. Cook for an additional minute to warm through.

Garnish and Plate: Serve the honey garlic chicken over a bed of cooked rice. Drizzle with extra sauce, and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
