Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, divided

8 oz German chocolate, coarsely chopped

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

1 cup brown sugar, packed

4 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

1 cup pecans, chopped

1 cup shredded coconut

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt 1/2 cup of butter along with the chopped German chocolate. Stir until smooth, then set aside to cool slightly.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and remaining 1/2 cup of butter. Beat together until well blended and creamy.

Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.

Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg and sugar blend. Mix until smooth and fully incorporated.

In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.

Fold in the chopped pecans and shredded coconut until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Allow the brownies to cool in the pan on a wire rack before cutting them into squares.
