Ingredients

1 cup water

1/2 cup unsalted butter, diced

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon sugar

4 large eggs

1 cup heavy whipping cream

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional: melted chocolate for drizzling or dusting of cocoa powder

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Make the Choux Pastry: In a medium saucepan, combine water, diced butter, salt, and sugar. Heat over medium until the butter melts and the mixture comes to a simmer.

Add Flour: Once simmering, remove from heat and quickly stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Let it cool for about 5 minutes.

Incorporate Eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. The dough should be smooth and glossy.

Pipe the Puffs: Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large round tip. Pipe onto the prepared baking sheet in tablespoon-sized mounds, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the puffs are golden brown and have risen. Don't open the oven door during baking, as this might cause them to deflate.

Cool the Puffs: Remove from the oven and let the puffs cool completely on a wire rack.

Make the Cream Filling: In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract until fully incorporated and the mixture is light and fluffy.

Fill the Puffs: Once the cream puffs are cool, use a sharp knife to cut a small slit in the side of each puff. Fill with whipped cream using either a piping bag or a spoon.

Garnish: Optionally, drizzle with melted chocolate or dust with cocoa powder for an elegant touch.

Serve and Enjoy: Arrange your cream puffs on a serving platter and enjoy the delightful treat!
