Ingredients
  

12 oz pasta (penne or fusilli work well)

2 cups fresh broccoli florets

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

Zest of 1 lemon

Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Instructions
 

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. In the last 3-4 minutes of cooking, add the broccoli florets to the boiling pasta. Drain both together and reserve 1 cup of the pasta water.

    Prepare the Cream Sauce: In the same pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned.

      Make It Creamy: Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream, allowing it to warm gently. Gradually add in the grated Parmesan cheese, stirring constantly until the cheese melts and the sauce is creamy. If the sauce is too thick, gradually add reserved pasta water, little by little, until the desired consistency is achieved.

        Combine: Add the cooked pasta and broccoli back into the pot with the creamy sauce. Toss everything gently to coat, ensuring the pasta and broccoli are evenly covered.

          Season: Add salt and pepper to taste, and stir in the lemon zest and red pepper flakes if using.
