Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)

1 small onion, finely chopped (for the steak)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup breadcrumbs

1 large egg

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying)

2 large onions, thinly sliced (for the gravy)

2 cups beef broth

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (for thickening)

1 tablespoon butter

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Hamburger Steaks:

    - In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until everything is just combined; avoid overmixing.

      - Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into oval patties.

        Cook the Hamburger Steaks:

          - Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the hamburger patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are well browned and cooked through. Transfer them to a plate and cover to keep warm.

            Prepare the Onion Gravy:

              - In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium. Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until they start to soften and caramelize.

                - Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir well to combine. Cook for another minute.

                  - Gradually pour in the beef broth and soy sauce while stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

                    - Allow the gravy to thicken for about 3-5 minutes. If the gravy is too thick, add a bit more beef broth. Stir in the butter and mix until melted.

                      Serve:

                        - Place the hamburger steaks back into the skillet with the gravy to coat them in the sauce. Allow them to simmer for an additional minute.

                          - Serve hot, garnished with chopped parsley, along with mashed potatoes or rice to soak up the delicious gravy.
