Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup dark chocolate chips

1 cup fresh or frozen cherries, pitted and chopped

Flaky sea salt for topping (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cream the butter and sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy, about 3 minutes.

Add the eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until fully combined.

Mix dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in chocolate and cherries: Gently fold in the dark chocolate chips and chopped cherries until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Scoop the dough: Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Optional topping: If desired, sprinkle a small pinch of flaky sea salt on top of each cookie before baking.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cookies have spread slightly and the edges are set but the centers are still soft.

Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
