Brownies have a rich history that dates back to the late 19th century in the United States. The exact origin is somewhat murky, but it is widely believed that brownies were created by accident when a baker forgot to add baking powder to chocolate cake batter. The result was a dense, fudgy dessert that quickly became popular. The first published brownie recipe appeared in the 1905 edition of the "Boston Cooking-School Magazine of Culinary Science," which helped solidify the brownie’s place in American dessert culture.

Ingredients

1 cup creamy peanut butter

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup brown sugar, packed

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup REESE'S PIECES, plus extra for topping

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix wet ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and creamy peanut butter. Mix until smooth. Then add in granulated sugar and brown sugar, and whisk until well combined.

Add eggs and vanilla: Crack in the eggs, one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until evenly combined.

Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

Mix dry and wet ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, folding gently with a spatula or spoon until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Add REESE'S PIECES: Gently fold in 1 cup of REESE'S PIECES and the semi-sweet chocolate chips if using.

Bake the brownies: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle extra REESE'S PIECES on top for an appealing finish. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Cool and serve: Once done, remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting them into square pieces.
