Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8 inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

    Make the Brownie Batter:

      - In a medium saucepan, melt the 1/2 cup of butter over low heat. Remove from heat, and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined.

        - Add the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until just combined, then fold in the chocolate chips. Set aside.

          Make the Cookie Dough:

            - In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

              - Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

                - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

                  Layer the Brownies and Cookies:

                    - Spread the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish in an even layer.

                      - Using a spoon or your hands, dollop spoonfuls of cookie dough on top of the brownie layer, gently spreading it out to cover most of the brownies.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (but not wet batter).

Cool and Cut: Allow the brookies to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes. Use the parchment paper overhang to lift them out of the pan and onto a wire rack to cool completely. Once cool, cut into squares.

Serve and Enjoy: Enjoy your delicious brookies warm or at room temperature, perfect for desserts or a sweet snack!
